Becoming an Ordinary Person | Special Exhibition for 30th Anniversary of the Judicial Reform Foundation | Taichung Venue
2025-3-07
"Becoming an Ordinary Person: Special Exhibition for 30th Anniversary of the Judicial Reform Foundation" aims to guide the audience through Taiwan's 30-year journey of judicial reform through reflection and a forward-looking perspective. It shows how changes have been made, turning many important rights into the daily life of every "ordinary person." It also highlights the people who fought along the way, leaving footprints for future generations to follow and paving the way for future changes.
This exhibition is a tribute to the past and a collective vision for the future of judicial reform.

Never thought that becoming an ordinary person would be such a difficult thing.
Su Jianhe, the first person in Taiwan to have a death penalty wrongful conviction overturned, once said, "I hope that in my lifetime, I will no longer need to tell people who I am."
The Su Jianhe case became the catalyst for Taiwan’s first wave of criminal litigation reform. It became textbook material in high school curricula, the first wrongful conviction case law school students ever heard of, and the most frequently cited case in campus lectures by the Judicial Reform Foundation. The three individuals in the Su Jianhe case were so “special”. But no one wants to be "special" for such a long period.
"When I was tortured, my younger brother hadn’t even gotten married yet. Now, he’s a grandfather, but I’m still stuck here. Of course, I know the judicial system today is different, but don’t ignore me. I’m still fighting in the lawsuit, and that’s the reality. I’m low-key, but I’m still working hard. Let’s work together."

The extraordinary power of change creates the happiness of ordinary people.
The Judicial Reform Foundation, after 30 years of efforts, has gathered the strength of the people from the grassroots, transforming the once extraordinary judicial landscape into what is now considered ordinary and normal. It continues to monitor whether the rights that most people now take for granted are equally enjoyed and protected for vulnerable groups.
Even though there is still work to be done, our efforts have never ceased. The promise endures, moving forward into the future.
The museum fully adopts the "online reservation system", and will not provide waitlist or on-site registration.
